The Omni Hotel – A Florentine Castle In San Francisco

This luxury hotel started life as a bank in 1926 before it was transformed into a sort of Florentine Renaissance castle with Austrian crystal chandeliers, rich mahogany paneling and a grand central staircase. We think of it as classical elegance. Guest rooms have been upgraded and modernized, but have kept the historical charms intact.

Expect tall, 9-foot-high ceilings with crown moldings and hand-carved mahogany furniture. But the pièces de la resistance are the sliding glass doors that reveal the generously-sized marble bathrooms with gleaming Chinese black-and-green granite basins. The Omni Hotel is found at Nob Hill, right on the cable car lines. It's near four of San Francisco's top attractions — Chinatown, Union Square, the Ferry Building, and North Beach.

What You Can Expect at The Omni San Francisco

You have a choice between the Deluxe, Premier and Signature rooms, or the California and Presidential Suites. We suggest the Signature rooms.

Premier Rooms — Luxurious bedding with plump comforters and cotton duvets are the centerpiece of these rooms. The Premier rooms are found on the upper floors with views of the San Francisco skyline.

Signature Rooms — The top three floors are reserved for the 385-square-foot rooms with extra touches like a Nespresso coffee machine, an iHome docking station, breakfast for two and nightly turndown service.

California Suites — Upgrade to a 600-square-foot suite, featuring a separate living room with a city view of the cable cars below. Daylight floods the corner suites with six tall windows.

Presidential Suite — Feeling up to making executive decisions? This opulent suite is on the 16th floor with over 12,00 square feet of space! Relax in the living room — with a wet bar — or the dining area with room enough for eight guests.

When you're ready for a nosh, head to Bob's Steak and Chop House which is located just off the lobby. Its been named by SF diners as one of the Top 10 Steak Houses in the city. The signature item at Bob's is the big jar of pickles plunked down on each table — free for the picking. You might think they're just for show, but everyone munches down. In fact, some people come just for the pickles!

They also come for Bob's finest corn-fed, prime beef from the Midwest, the humungous shrimp, fresh salads and swoon-worthy desserts. Bon Appetit Magazine raves about Bob's as "the kind of fare you'll want to go back for again and again."

When you're ready to walk it off, join one of the free Guided Walking Tours every Saturday at 10 am where you discover San Francisco history, architecture, and legends. Or, hop on a convenient cable car and take your own walk around the city's colorful neighborhoods.
