Orchard Hotel – On The Edge of Union Square and Chinatown

Unlike many of the vintage buildings in its Union Square neighborhood, the Orchard Hotel was built in the 21st century, which means that the entire structure was designed with modern sensibilities and eco-friendly standards in mind. The Orchard is the very first California hotel built to the exacting standards developed by the US Green Building Council. The European-style keycard system turns the power off automatically each time you leave your guest room, adding up to savings of 20% in energy consumption.

But don't worry, the hotel understands that comfort is most important. The residential-style hotel combines classic decor like expansive archways and vaulted ceilings with natural wood, bronze and stone accents. It's also one of the rare San Francisco hotels that offers free luxury car transfers to and from the airport.

What You Can Expect at Orchard Hotel San Francisco

In the guest rooms, you'll find a soft palette of calm colors, Egyptian cotton bed linens, and 100% feather down pillows. In the large bathrooms are Aveda products and comfy spa-style robes.

The spacious rooms are finished with Balinese-wood furniture and a quality entertainment system with surround-sound CD/DVD players and free movies. The ultra-insulated rooms are very quiet. There are only 12 rooms on each floor, adding to the overall tranquil feeling of The Orchard.

The hotel's Daffodil Restaurant serves up California cuisine sourced from local and organic ingredients. A round cherry-wood table and fresh floral arrangements, add a cheery element, especially combined with the arched, floor-to-ceiling windows. We like the baby gem salad with tiny artichokes, ripe plums and a fig & ginger vinaigrette, and the Kobe burger with havarti cheese, spicy Aioli, house-made pickles and pomme frites.

We also enjoy the downtown location within walking distance of Chinatown and Union Square. And,of course, when you're downtown, cable cars are never very far away.
