Napa Valley Bed And Breakfast – Live The Wine Country Lifestyle

In another article we review and recommend the top luxury B&Bs in Napa. As you might expect, luxury in the Wine Country comes with a price tag. But it's still possible to enjoy the wine lifestyle and save a bit of money on accommodations. We've rounded up the best of Napa Valley bed and breakfast inns that start at under $200 per night. Perhaps not as luxurious, these inns still deliver Wine Country living while saving you money to spend on wine!

Take for instance the Bergson, in Calistoga. The rooms are handsome, the bathrooms are well-equipped, yet the rooms start in the mid $100. What do you give up for that price? Perhaps their breakfasts aren't as luxe as others. Or, if you're willing to stay at a mid-century motel, the El Bonita in St Helena gives you the Napa Valley experience starting in the $100 range. Cheers to that!

The Bergson

The Bergson

We can certainly understand why the Bergson gets such glowing reviews. The decor is sleek, modern, and a tad more masculine than the pink-flowered wallpapers we see at other Napa Valley bed and breakfast inns. Let's star with he Garden Patio room with a queen bed, private balcony, and a fireplace starting around $120. The Signature King Suite, on the second floor, boasts its own fireplace, private balcony, and Jacuzzi tub and starts at just under $200 per night.

Although you're in downtown Calistoga (a good thing), the Inn's entrance feels like a country estate with a stone terrace and wrought iron tables and chairs. It feels very much like France! One caveat, their continental breakfast is not as bountiful as more luxurious places.

The property is in an excellent location. Close to quaint downtown Calistoga as well as many wineries. The room was beautiful, peaceful and comfortable. I have spent a lot of time in the South of France and this room and property reminded me so much of that region. Waking up to the sound of the fountain on our veranda and the smell of fresh flowers was enough to solidify our decision to return on our next trip to the valley. The main area and courtyard was also very lovely with fresh brewed coffee and a very nice continental breakfast."

Maison Fleurie

Maison Fleurie

It's the extras we love at intimate guest houses like Maison Fleurie. As you would expect a hearty breakfast is included, but there's also afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres served from 5:00 to 6:30 nightly and daily fresh baked cookies & tea in the afternoon. If you're petite and on a budget, consider the Garret Queen room #6. Prices start at $155 and the small room gives you an artist's feel to Wine Country living.

If you're not on a budget, consider the Bakery Building guest room, with a king bed, its own private entrance, and a deck overlooking the pool and garden. We're partial to the Petite Queen with exposed brick walls, French bed linens, and a queen bed. Check their specials and see if the "Stay One Night & Receive a Second Night for Free" is available.

The bed was like a cloud. The room was very clean & the hydrotherapy tub so relaxing. So romantic!"

Oleander House

Oleander House

We suppose it's natural to make comparisons between Napa and France, and maybe that's why the Oleander Bed and Breakfast calls itself a French country inn. The five guest rooms are finished with Laura Ashely wall coverings, plaid and print cushions, and chandeliers. There's also a French-style garden.

Breakfasts are made with fresh local ingredients and feature baked goods, egg dishes, and home-baked desserts. Book the Garden Room — the light and airy room has its own private entrance and private patio. The furniture is French provincial with a touch of wicker. Or, if you're after more room, book the King Suite with French doors, a private balcony, and vaulted ceilings.

The house is beautiful. A lovely room and very comfortable bed. The owner and housekeeper were so lovely and welcoming. They had a special deal with the winery next door so we got a free tasting session which was also fantastic. Very accommodating, highly recommended."

Shady Oaks Country Inn

Shady Oaks Country Inn

Set in two acres of a secluded property on Zinfandel Lane, you get the best of both worlds — wineries & restaurants mixed in with calm peaceful gardens. Book the Winery Retreat room, with the original stone walls from the 1800s when it was a working winery. Relax by your own fireplace with a glass of wine from the evening wine and cheese service.

Every morning is a reason to celebrate at Shady Oaks with a full champagne breakfast served with a cornucopia of goodness — Belgian waffles, French toast and strong coffee. Take a peek at their many special packages. We especially like the Romance package that has a bouquet of long stem roses, chocolates, and a bottle of Roederer Champagne waiting for you. Hint, hint!

Shady Oaks is a quaint B&B with a homelike feel. The staff are very friendly and always smiling. Breakfast was fresh, delicious and more than one person should eat. And the house-blend coffee was exceptional."

El Bonita Motel

El Bonita Motel

We have a soft spot for this Napa Valley classic mid-century bargain bed & breakfast. With rooms starting in the $100 range, it's worth investigating. No, it's not a fleabag, but it is a basic, 1950s style motel where you park right in front of your room.

The location is fantastic on Main Street St Helena and close to Gott's Readside Drive In, where you can complete your mid-century experience with a refreshing lemonade and burger. (There was a local controversy when the drive in's name was changed from the original Taylors's Refresher.) There are a variety of rooms & suites, a basic breakfast is included, and you'll find some nice touches like lounge chairs around a kidney-shaped swimming pool, an original neon sign, and white picket fence. At these low prices, you need to make your reservations ASAP!

Room was very clean and had everything we needed (like a corkscrew!). The complementary breakfast was great for us, we didn't need a huge meal or anything so the oatmeal, fruit, cereal, breads and so on were perfect. They have a great spot outside to enjoy it too. The overall value of this place for the location is excellent and I would recommend it to everyone!"
