Great Napa Valley Accommodations – Our Top Wine Country Picks

The Napa Valley is an adult fairyland. The scenery is beautiful, even stunning; the towns are very cute; there are so many wonderful restaurants; and there are some great Napa Valley accommodations. Wait, did we miss something? Oh, yes — those amazing wines!

While you're visiting the valley, eating in the restaurants, sampling the wines, we want to make sure that your Napa Valley accommodations live up to the same standard of comfort and luxuriousness. (Is that a word?) We've already told you about the best Napa B&Bs, our top-rated valley resorts, and ten hotels we rated Superb or Superb-Plus, but we didn't want to leave out the following great stays in Wine Country —

North Block Hotel

North Block Hotel

Yountville is one of the first places you come to as you drive north on Highway 29 from the city of Napa, and it's definitely in the middle of Wine Country. It's not only a pleasant town, but it boasts some of California's best restaurants. We always make it a point to eat at Bistro Jeanty when we're there.

This small town (more of a hamlet, really) is also home to some wonderful Napa Valley accommodations, and the North Block Hotel (despite its rather industrial name) is right up there with the best of them. Staying there is like living in a Tuscan enclave, with the suites facing into a central courtyard. All the rooms are lovely and — it's hard to avoid the word — chic. There's a great restaurant on site as well as a spa. Simply put, you're going to feel well taken care of.

Cottage Grove Inn

Cottage Grove Inn

Now we're going to take you up Highway 29 to the other end of the valley, north to Calistoga. There, in a stand of mature elm trees, you'll find the private luxury cottages of Cottage Grove Inn. There's a lovely garden with a terrace where you can take breakfast. It's really a throwback to another era, but with all the luxurious, modern touches.

Sit on your own front porch, relax by your cottage's fireplace, or sip wine next the the fountain in the garden. "They make you feel like home," guests have said again and again about the cottages. We feel the same.

I never write any reviews for locations I go to, but this getaway location is amazing. The tranquil little town has a lot to offer and explore. The location is nice and hidden but still walking distance to the main town area. Everything you see on the website is there."

Solage Calistoga

Solage Calistoga

The Silverado Trail also runs from the city of Napa up to Calistoga. It parallels Highway 29, but follows a curvy path between the vineyards and the hills to the east. It's a lovely drive and a good way to get an overall sense of Napa Valley. And it's there, just about half a mile from the Trail's end in Calistoga, is where you find another accommodation that guests love, Solage Calistoga.

This luxury resort has the usual — lovely rooms, a full-service spa, easy access to wineries — but also includes SolBar, a Michelin-starred restaurant. The studios and one-bedroom suites are comfortably decorated and most feature a patio or fireplace.

The staff was really attentive and friendly across the board. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and the pools were great. Had a great dinner and service at Solbar. The bikes were very useful for visiting local wineries and going downtown. My wife and I loved taking advantage of the fitness classes."

Milliken Creek Inn

Milliken Creek Inn

Heading south on Silverado Trail we finally come to the outskirts of the city of Napa and the Milliken Creek Inn. It's an idyllic setting, on three acres bordering the Napa River and Milliken Creek. All the rooms are extremely comfortable and inviting and include features like fireplaces, oversize tubs, and rain showers. We particularly like the the Luxury Rooms (of course!) with large sitting areas and patios.

After a day wine tasting, you might want to relax with a treatment at the hotel's spa. The daily gourmet breakfast can be served in the privacy of your room, if you wish.

One of the best hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Absolutely amazing room, and ridiculously comfortable. The environment is serene and peaceful. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the fireplace and bath were fantastic. Complimentary water and sodas within the room. Complimentary breakfast delivered to your room that was a legitimate breakfast, not continental. The staff were wonderful, and the lobby felt like a home. Fresh baked cookies, coffee, movies, and wine all available here throughout the day."

Calistoga Ranch

Calistoga Ranch

Let's head north once more, back near Calistoga, so we can tell you about Calistoga Ranch. At over 150 acres, it's the size you'd expect from a place that's called a ranch. You're in a forested park just up in the hills with nature trails, there's a lake — it's hard to believe you're so near one of the most elegant wine areas in the world.

The fifty rooms are certainly luxurious, which is what you'd expect since the ranch was created by the founders of nearby Auberge du Soleil, one of our other top picks in the valley. There's daily yoga, free bicycles, hiking trails, and a wonderful spa, all set on this lovely Napa Valley hillside.
