Budget Wine Country Bed And Breakfast Inns In The City of Napa

With the average hotel price in the city of Napa in the $400 per night range, we had to sharpen our pencils to find B&B options that have a lower price tag. These budget Napa bed and breakfast inns are pegged at Highly Rated or Superb and start in the low $200 range, variable with the seasons.

Located mostly in the heart of Napa city, these budget B&B's give you access to the local wine bar and restaurant scene as well as everything else the city has to offer — entertainment, shopping and plenty of activities. And, of course, the glories of the Wine Country begin just a few minute drive from the city. All of these Napa bed and breakfast inns include nice features like a hot breakfast, some also have a cookie & tea service, handmade chocolates, and an evening happy hour with wine & cheese.

Hotel Napa Valley

Hotel Napa Valley

Yes, they admit their rooms are small but that doesn't stop guests from raving about this downtown Napa B&B. It's the details that attract the great reviews — feather bedding, a fireplace in each room, organic olive soaps, and a delicious full English breakfast (this means hearty) with vegetarian and gluten-free options.

In the evening, guests gather in Hotel Napa Valley's historic wine cellar for a wine tasting and then handmade chocolates. They can also help you plan the details of your trip to Wine Country by arranging bike rides, kayaking adventures, and of course, wine tasting. Bottom line — This is the largest in the group of three, including Merlot House and Cabernet House.

Comfortable bed, delicious breakfast that changes each morning, delicious chocolates in the evening, extremely friendly staff, helpful staff, no issues with parking, really cool old house, my husband loved the coffee the inn provided."

Cabernet House

Cabernet House

With a room named Allegria (Italian for happiness), we knew there'd be a lot to like about this downtown Napa bed and breakfast inn. The rooms are handsome; elegantly appointed with featherbeds, clawfoot tubs, private hot tubs, rich brocade window coverings and dark hardwood floors.

We adore the names of the other rooms & suites at Cabernet House — Starry Night, La Boheme, Chocolat, La Biblioteca, Casablanca, Bella Tuscany, Night in Paris, and our favorite, the Private Cottage. The cottage feels like a French country home with a four-poster bed with sheer curtains, a fireplace, terra cotta floor tiles, and an entrance framed with jasmine blossoms. Bottom line — wonderful decor and surroundings at reasonable rates, with rooms starting at $149.

Merlot House

Merlot House

Handmade chocolates, breakfasts made from scratch, free wine tastingsMerlot House has a lot going for it. Built in 1888, the inn exudes authentic old-world charm. There are only five rooms, with more rooms and cottages available at their sister bed & breakfast inns Cabernet House and Hotel Napa Valley. Think of it as one big happy hotel family!

Book the Harvest Suite and you'll have the largest room in the house, with 850 square feet of luxury living. Other rooms have romantic names like Walk in the Clouds, Crush Pad and the Barrel Rooms. And because you're downtown Napa, the world is your oyster. Bottom line — comfortable rooms, great breakfast, and nice extra touches make this a good choice.

Silverado Resort and Spa

Silverado Resort and Spa

Not strictly a B&B and not right in downtown Napa, the Silverado is a large golf resort, on the outskirts of the city about a 15-minute drive from the core. There are many accommodation options — Mansion Estates, Cottage Drive, or the more secluded Grove and Oak Creek East. And since it's a resort and spa, you can expect swimming pools, tennis courts, golf courses, and all the amenities of a spa (all cost extra).

Bottom line — This is a large resort, and there have been many complaints about the poor service, not getting the promised room, about the hotel being overbooked, and extra charges for the pool and the spa. But, the accommodations are really very nice and we would recommend the Silverado if you are a golfer or married to one.

Staff were very accommodating for the delay we experienced, offering us an upgraded room and complimentary bottle of wine and breakfast. Close to downtown Napa, where there are many great restaurants."

Arbor Guest House

Arbor Guest House

Dan and Candy always dreamt about owning a bed and breakfast and once their children grew up, they left San Francisco to open up the Arbor Guest House. Breakfast is an epicurean delight with three courses and plenty of freshly brewed coffee. You can take breakfast in the dining room or in the garden at a bistro table.

We get the feeling that the innkeepers have poured their heart and soul into this endeavor. There are five guest rooms in the historic downtown inn, each have their own fireplace. Outdoors there's a gazebo, wrap-around deck, and even a bocce ball court. This new B&B doesn't yet have enough reviews to be rated, but we expect it to rank high.
